NWSA's conference held at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead

he 18th annual Women’s Sailing Conference at the Corinthian Yacht Club was a tremendous success. The weather for on-the-water sessions included some wind and fog, but no rain. Nonetheless spirits were not dampened.

After a welcome by Commodore Annie Harris, the group scattered to one of 20 different workshop locations. The ballroom not only held an extensive array of silent auction items, but also the Boating Skills Virtual Trainer workshop. Barbara Herrmann facilitated women’s training throughout the day at the virtual trainer. In all the workshops, women were engaged with their presenters, asked a lot of questions and shared lots of stories.

Haley Lhamon, the keynote speaker, from Bainbridge Island, WA took us from start to finish of the 2018 R2AK event which she and her all female teammates won aboard the monohull Sail Like A Girl. Photographs, charts with trackers and videos with music augmented the narrative with great success. We were glued to our seats. A couple of women were the lucky winners of Sail Like A Girl swag.

The 2019 Leadership in Women’s Sailing Award was presented to Pat Dieselman of Ipswich, MA.

NWSA's organizes WOWZR! a women's learning regatta in the desert

The inaugural WOWzr! sold out. The women’s race training weekend was produced in cooperation with Tumbleweed Sailing at Lake Pleasant Arizona.

Three days with amazingly low participant to coach ratio. Legendary desert weather—cool at sunrise, warming quickly—averages overnight low of 53° and afternoon high of 76°! Saguaro dotted shoreline, wild burros, bald eagles. Social networking, race seminars and on the water coaching led up to race day full of fun and hot competition.
